Carsins Run at Eva Mar will be Harford County’s first and only CCRC—providing high-quality healthcare paired with high-quality living.

What is a CCRC?

CCRC stands for Continuing Care Retirement Community, also known a Life Plan Community.

What does a CCRC offer?

A CCRC like Carsins Run is a community where seniors are able to live as independently as possible for as long as possible—without having to move to a new community, should they need additional healthcare services in the future.

The focus of a CCRC is to provide each resident with a level of care that fits their evolving needs. This is also known as a “continuum of care.” As you age and need additional service, staying in the same community takes away the uncertainty that comes with changing your environment.

“Underlying in my decision was the security of knowing that if I have a health event, I’ll have the resources at Carsins Run to care for me.”

— Mary Boehly, Future Resident

Why is a CCRC a good place to retire?

  • You can comfortably age in place and receive the level of care you need, when you need it—maintaining your freedom and independence.

  • Whether you require activity specialists, a nursing team, or social services, when your needs change, your location will not.

  • All levels of healthcare are all on the same campus. If needed, you can easily go from an Independent Living residence to an Assisted Living or Nursing Care suite.

  • Active singles or couples may decide to move into an Independent Living apartment in a CCRC to ensure future on-site care will be available. This is especially a concern after experiencing a first health issue such as a stroke or heart attack.

  • Should you or your spouse have different needs as you get older, you/your loved one will not be uprooted to another campus for increasing care.

  • The Benevolent Care Fund has been set up so that you can stay in the community even if the money you set aside for healthcare expenses runs out (and you qualify for such support)

  • You’ll remain with the same group of friends and caregivers. You’ll build relationships and live happily knowing you will be cared for in the years to come.

“It makes sense to live in a residence with a full spectrum of care where you can easily make the transition to assisted living without having to move to another community.”

— Diane Alsid, Future Resident

Is Assisted Living the same as a CCRC?

  • No, a stand-alone Assisted Living facility is not the same as a Continuing Care Retirement Community (Life Plan community).

  • Stand-alone Assisted Living facilities typically require you to move to an off-campus nursing or Memory Care facility if your health declines.

  • There’s less stress when you choose to live in a CCRC. When your need for care increases, you will receive the extra assistance in the same community you already live in, all while staying close to your friends and trusted staff members.

What are the levels of care at Carsins Run?

Socialization is critical to mental and physical health. Every level of care at Carsins Run will promote healthy interaction.

  • Independent Living: Live in your new home and community knowing that you likely will not have to move in the years to come. You can enjoy resort-style amenities and a wide variety of planned activities ranging from book club to fitness classes, catering to every level of active seniors.

  • Assisted Living: Continue to enjoy access to all of the amenities of independent living but receive an added level of services when needed. Should your needs increase, you will move to a private suite where you will receive three meals a day, assistance with housekeeping and certain laundering services, and other support with activities of daily living.

  • Comprehensive Nursing Care: If you require nursing care, you can receive it at Carsins Run. With the comfort of a familiar setting with friends/family nearby, your longer-term health needs will be provided on-site in the comprehensive nursing residence.

  • Memory Care: Residents who develop the need for memory support services will receive care 24 hours a day from specially trained professionals in memory disorders. Feel connected, safe, and valued in your peaceful, home-like residency.

  • Complex, Acute Care: Residents will have easy, nearby access to high-quality healthcare at the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, MedStar Health, and a range of specialty providers.

— Pat Adelhardt, Future Resident
